We are often asked by a number of our customers what they should look for when purchasing a bed or mattress and what the best bed currently available is. The second part is something which in most cases we cannot answer because every person is different and not everyone likes the same thing.
However, we have come up with our “serious seven”. These are hints about what you should be looking for when you do come to purchase a new bed or mattress and points you need to consider:
Differences: Not everyone will find the same bed comfortable, after all if we were all the same like robots then life would be pretty boring. Just because the rest of your family or friends have a certain type of bed it doesn’t mean that this is going to be the right option for you. You need to head down to a bed showroom which has lots of options available and try them out!
Explore: When you are looking for the perfect bed then you need to realise that you do need to go out and explore a full range of beds and try out the various mattress types such as pocket sprung, latex, memory foam or open coil. Make sure you try out the various different bed bases too as these all can feel very different.
Assumptions: More often than not you will hear everyone saying oh a firm bed is better for you! This isn’t always the case; the perfect bed should be supportive for your back but not so supportive that it is uncomfortable and too firm. If you are uncomfortable then you won’t get a good night’s sleep regardless of whether it is a new bed or not.
Big is Better: Yes big beds are great if there are two of you, there is more room for moving around but you do need to make sure you have the exact sizes and not just rough estimates. Will the biggest bed really fit in your room and give you adequate space so you can actually walk around it and you do not need some form of circus act just to get into bed. A standard double bed is 4ft 6” x 6ft 3”, a king size bed is 5ft x 6ft 6” and a super king measures 6ft x 6ft 6” but this can change so check.
Budget: Obviously you will have a budget laid out before you go shopping on how much you are to spend. Of course you have a limit but go for a bed which is the best value rather than the cheapest option available. Sometimes for a few extra pounds you can get a bed or mattress which is noticeably different so do have a check and weigh up your options.
Self-Conscious: It is pretty normal to feel self-conscious about trying out a bed and mattress when in a showroom. After all there are people around and the salesmen are looking at you whilst you try out the display models – all eyes are on you! However it is of extreme importance that you do try out the beds and mattresses properly and that you decide which ones are the most suitable before you purchase a bed and mattress which you have jumped on then off like a hot potato.
“Oh No”: A phrase which our delivery team hear way to often unfortunately! You do need to consider how you are going to get your new bed into the chosen room and into its new home. Some beds do some apart easily but remember not all of them do and even so it is a large piece of furniture which still needs to be carefully manoeuvred.
